It is pretty obvious that K. R. Burg -- author of Elliot Spence -- was in a high time of her life at the point of writing this book, even though she was having some rough parts here and there (K. R. Burg Facebook). The book shows how someone who is hated by all his classmates can rise above and become a genius CIA agent. Burg was definitely wanting to tell the audience that if you truly try hard enough, you can be what ever and who ever you want to be.
It is a bit hard to see what Burg was going through at the time due to Burg being a fairly new author. Thus, there are not too many websites that talk about her, but to see a little bit of her background and personality, you would need to visit her website, http://krburgbooks.weebly.com/, and scroll through the pages a bit. It also helped that I was one of her seventy-two students when she was writing this book in my sixth grade class. As stated before, she was having the time of her life, writing and teaching. She sometimes would read out of a different book she was writing. You can sort of see this theme of "I can accomplish anything" in this book, Elliot Spence, as Elliot Spence -- the main character -- becomes a CIA agent in sixth grade! This theme is also echoed in her other books that she had written in this time period, but those are not the subject of this discussion. I would say that Elliot Spence -- once again, the main character of this book -- was portrayed as K. R. Burg. They both share the same characteristics: Smart, Quercky, Etc. They also both had the same theme, in a sense, as I stated before. Burg has most definetly cast Elliot out of some, if not most, of her character traits. Overall, K. R. Burg was enjoying writing this book as shown in the book and characters themselves. This book is pretty interesting due to this point; showing adventure, wonder, and exploration of new ideas all wrapped up in a very nice, mysterious spy story. Definetly one of the most interesting books I've read in a while. |
